Colin Hunt was one of eight Midlanders in the Great Britain basketball squad at the 1948 Olympics. A member of the famous Birmingham Dolobran club, he played in all five defeats in their opening group matches, and then in the three classification games, including their only win of the tournament, against Ireland.
One of the most unusual matches Hunt played in was at the Harringay Ice Rink in 1939. Basketball was still in its infancy as a competitive sport in Britain at the time, and London entertained Birmingham in an exhibition match. A wooden floor was laid on the ice, and “ball boys” skated around the court to recover loose balls. London won by a single point, 40-39
