Sailor Stefan Mädicke partnered Ulf Lehmann in the Flying Dutchman class at the 1988 Seoul Olympics representing East Germany, and finished ninth. The next year they won the silver medal at the European Championships, and in 1996 the pair won the World Championship. Mädicke won the East German national title in 1983, 1985, and 1988.
