Max Oberti was an Italian sailor who competed at the three Olympic Games over a span of 28 years, starting at 1928 Amsterdam and ending at 1956 Melbourne. He was the son of Emilio Oberti (1870-1945), a collector of works of art and literature. After Emilio’s death, the artistic and book heritage passed in part to Max, who by then had become a wealthy shipowner. He shared his great passion for sailing with his wife Valeria Rosini. Oberti won many important regattas, of which the most prestigious was the 1955 Gold Cup in Sandhamm, Sweden. Upon his death his wife donated all his works of art to the Ligustica Academy Museum where he had been a promoter and admirer since the early 1970s.
