Biography

Jean Peytel was a former French sailor who participated in the 1932, 1936, 1948, and 1960 Summer Olympic Games. He won the One Ton Cup in the 1928 CVP (Club des Voiles de Paris) in the 6 Metre class, as helmsman of the boat owned by Conill. In 1965, as Vice-President of the CVP, he launched the innovative idea of ​​an offshore race for cruising sailboats in real time, without handicaps, following a rating system. This marked the beginning of the IOR (International Yacht Club) and the revival of the One Ton Cup.

Occupations: Lawyer at the Court of Appeal of Paris (10 October 1935), member of the Council of the Order (1966-1970), honorary lawyer (1986), Maxime Hussenot prize (1942).

Honours: Officer of the Legion of Honour, National Merit, Physical Education Medal.
