Having won the silver medal aboard his father’s yacht Emily in the 8-metre open class at the 1924 Olympics, Ernest Roney failed to medal four years later when he finished seventh aboard Feo. Two of his fellow crew that day were his siblings Margaret (owner of Feo), and Esmond.
Emily had been built in 1924 and was owned by Roney’s father Sir Ernest Knight Roney. She was launched only a few months before the 1924 Paris Olympics. Roney and his father, jointly acquired a replacement, Emily II, in 1929, and Roney junior enjoyed many successes with her, often assisted by his brother and sister. Like his father and brother, Roney was a partner in the family firm of solicitors.
