Harry Sindle

Harry Sindle sailed the Flying Dutchman class at the 1960 Olympics along with Robert Wood. In 1959 Sindle and Wood won gold at the 1959 Pan American Games in the same class. Sindle attended Rutgers University and sailed out of the Lavallette Yacht Club and the Ware River Yacht Club. He later sailed mostly in Buccaneer boats, a non-Olympic class. A graduate of Rutgers University in mechanical engineering, Sindle served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Sindle initially co-owned a small sailboat manufacturer in Toms River, New Jersey (Siddons and Sindle) but later moved to Gloucester, Virginia where he became manager of Newport Boats. After several mergers and name changes, this became Gloucester Yachts and Sindle continued to work in an executive role. He was known for several boat designs, especially the Newport models - Holiday, Blue Crab, Flipper, Skipjack, Kite, N17, and Surprise. He also designed the Lockley/Newport line and produced fiberglass versions of the Hampton One Design, Albacore, Lightning, and the Chrysler (later named Gloucester), Buccaneer and Mutineer.
