England-born Robin Tattersall first gained notoriety as a male model during the mid-1950s while studying medicine at Cambridge University. After obtaining his degree in 1957, he worked as a surgeon in London until 1965, when he travelled to the British Virgin Islands to serve as Government Surgeon for the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla. He held that position until 1973, after which he founded his own clinic, the Bougainvillea Clinic, in Road Town, British Virgin Islands, where he specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Among his many honors, in 2001 he was awarded an OBE for his services to medicine.
Tattersall was also a notable sport sailor and attended two editions of the Soling class regatta at the Olympics. In 1984 in Los Angeles, he placed 21st alongside Elvet Meyers and Keith Thomas. In 1992, as the oldest sailor at the Games, he was 17th with John Shirley and Robert Hirst. Tattersall continued competing in regattas, as well as running marathons, into his 80s.
