East German Herbert Weichert, brother of Konrad Weichert, partnered with Hans-Joachim Lange at the 1972 München Olympics in the of the two-person keelboat Star class at Kiel. They finished next-to-last in 17th place. Herbert won three East German national titles, and later turned to coaching at SC Empor Rostock, where he coached among others Holger Weichert, the son of his brother.
