Racing on the Bravo course, the Australian crew won only one race, the sixth, but was consistent, not having to count any finish past their fourth in race five. John Anderson won gold in this event while his identical twin brother Tom was winning gold in the Dragon class on the Alpha course. The silver-medal winning Swedish boat was skippered by Pelle Petterson, who had won a bronze medal in this event in 1964. He would later become the father-in-law of American sailor Paul Cayard, a 2004 Olympian, who was known for his participation in multiple America’s Cup events. Bronze medalist Willi Kuhweide was competing in his third of five Olympics. He had won the gold medal in the Finn Class at the 1964 Olympics.
