Cyril Wright and his father-in-law Percy Machin were the co-owners of Ancora, which won the 7-metre class at the 1920 Olympics. Machin did not take part in the Olympic regatta at Ostend and it was with Wright as helmsman that Ancora sailed against the Norwegian boat Fornebo, which was the only other entry. The Norwegians won the first race but the British entry from the Royal Burnham Yacht Club won the next two races to take the gold medals. One of the crew members aboard Ancora was Cyril’s wife, Dorothy Wright, whom he had married while on leave from the RNVR at Christmas in 1917. When he gave up his practices as a Naval Architect in London Cyril retired with Dorothy to Poole in Dorset.
