Biography

Zdeněk Konečný was a Czechoslovak basketball player who played for 14 seasons in the national league from 1955 to 1972. Konečný spent the first 12 years of his career with Zbrojovka Brno, winning five league titles with the team (1958, 1962–64, 1967), in addition to finishing as a runner-up on four occasions. He then spent three seasons playing in Austria before ending his domestic career with clubs in Czechoslovakia. From 1958 to 1963 he also played in 84 matches for the Czechoslovak national team, including competing at two European Championships and the 1960 Roma Olympics. At the latter Konečný played in eight matches and scored 63 points, with Czechoslovakia finishing fifth overall. After his playing career he worked as a mechanical engineer and in 2006 he was inducted into the Brno Hall of Fame.
