John Kahnert was a shot putter at the 1948 London Olympics. He also won a silver medal in the shot put at the inaugural 1951 Pan American Games and was third in that event at the 1949 South American Championships. Kahnert later emigrated to the United States, settling near Baltimore, where he earned a Ph.D. and became a college professor. He was also a leader at Camp Big Eagle. Kahnert was known for his artwork, a lifetime hobby.
