Lisa Martin-Ondieki started out as a 400 metre hurdler but later found fame as a marathoner, winning a silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She was a two-time Commonwealth Games Champion, winning the marathon in 1986 and 1990, and won the 1992 New York City Marathon.
Martin-Ondieki placed second at the London Marathon in 1993-94 and finished second at the 1984 Chicago Marathon and the 1986 New York City Marathon. Her other major marathon victories include the 1984 Canberra Marathon, the 1985 Pittsburgh Marathon, and the 1988 Osaka International Ladies Marathon. She competed through 1996, her last major race being a ninth-place finish at the 1996 Osaka Marathon. Martin-Ondieki was inducted into the Athletics Australia Hall of Fame in 2014.
