George Avery had hoped to return to London when he heard that the 2012 Olympics would be held there, but he died in 2006 at the age of 81. His family was determined to fulfill his wishes, however, and brought his cremated remains to the Olympic Stadium during the London Olympics. They surreptitiously made their way down to the edge of the track and released his ashes over the triple jump runway and the landing pit.
Personal Best: TJ – 15.365 (1948).
