Sean Quilty

Sean Quilty was an Australian long-distance runner who specialised in the marathon. Quilty began his running career competing in shorter distances, becoming the national junior champion in the 1500 metres in 1986. Quilty’s first major international competition was the marathon at the 1994 Commonwealth Games where he won the silver medal. Quilty ran in the marathon at three editions of the World Championships in Athletics (1995, 97, 99), with his best finish of 27th place in Athína in 1997.

Quilty represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, finishing in 34th place, and in two editions of the World Cross Country Championships. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games, Quilty narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish with 11th place. Quilty was a two-time national marathon champion (1991, 93), and won the Australian 10,000 metres title in 1999.
