Biography

Javelin thrower Gerda Schilling-Staniek was selected to represent Austria at the 1948 London and 1952 Helsinki Olympics. In 1948 she finished ninth and in 1952 did not reach the final. Schilling-Staniek was Austrian champion in 1951 and 1953.

Schilling-Staniek was also active in figure skating in the 1940s. She partnered her husband Friedrich “Fritz” Staniek (died Oct 1950) and they won bronze medals at the Austrian Ice Dance Championships in 1946 and 1948-49, and earned silver in 1947.
