Ine Schäffer was Austrian champion in the shot put (1943, 1948) and discus (1943, 1949). After the “Anschluss” of Austria to the German Reich she placed second in the shot at the 1943 German Championships, and later won the bronze medal in the shot at the 1948 London Olympics. Schäffer married non-Olympian 800 metres runner Heinz Schäffer but divorced. After immigrating to Canada she married film producer Karl Spreitz.
