Sprinter Herwig Röttl was Austrian outdoor champion in 110 metres hurdles (1991-92, 1995), and indoor champion (1988-94). He qualified for the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. In 1992 Röttl reached the semi-finals and in 1996 was eliminated in the heats.
Röttl participated in the 1988 and 1989 European indoor, 1990 European outdoor, 1991 and 1993 World indoor, and 1991 and 1995 World outdoor championships, without reaching a final. Röttl later became a group inspector, and a city councillor with the left-winged party SPÖ in his hometown of Feldkirchen.
