Biography

From 1929 to 1939 René Geeraert won 13 Belgian titles across five different events in middle-distance running. In 1929 Geeraert was a three-time national champion with victories in the 1,500 metres, 5,000 metres, and the 3,000 metres steeplechase. He continued his impressive form with four more titles in the 1,500 metres (1930, 1932–33, 1936), four in the 800 metres (1933–34, 1937, 1939), and two in the cross-country race (1930–31). From 1930 to 1936 he was the Belgian record holder in the 1,500 metres, and from 1934 to 1936 the national record holder in the 800 metres. At international competitions Geeraert ran in the 1,500 metres at the 1934 European Athletics Championships in Torino and at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but failed to replicate his national success at either.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:59.4 (1935).
