Charleroi-resident Félicien Van de Putte was the winner of the Mechelen to Bruxelles marathon in 1924, with a time of 2-01:28, bettering the previous national record set by Auguste Broos by more than a minute. A longtime member of Union-Saint-Gilles in the Bruxelles area, he was one of six Belgian entries in the marathon at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, but did not finish the race. He remained active in domestic competitions until around 1927, and also ran in cross-country events and the 5,000 metres. After a hiatus from running, Van de Putte returned to compete in the same race he won over 20 years later in 1946 and 1947.
