Biography

Belgian track and field athlete Camiel Vandevelde represented Jong Vlaanderen in Kruibeke where he specialised in long-distance and cross-country races. Vandevelde ran in the 5,000 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics where he finished eighth in his heat. He also ran in the 10,000 metres in Paris, which was contested as a final only, but did not finish the race. Vandevelde won his first medal at the Belgian athletics championships in 1924 when he finished second in the 5,000 metres. Four years later he went one better to win gold in the event, along with bronze in the cross-country race.
