Biography

Throughout the 1930s Oscar Van Rumst won multiple long-distance running titles in Belgium. Van Rumst won his first national title in 1930 with victory in the 3,000 metres steeplechase. He continued to dominate in the event, winning a further six titles during the decade (1931, 1933–36, 1938). Further success came in the 5,000 metres with four Belgian titles (1931, 1935–36, 1938), along with two cross-country titles (1937–38). Van Rumst ran in both the 5,000 metres and the 3,000 metres steeplechase at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but did not advance from the heats in either race.

Personal Bests: 5000 – 15:01.4 (1936); 3000S – 9:29.4 (1938).
