Athlete Dana Wright was a specialist in the hurdles, but was selected as an alternate on Canada’s 4x400 metre relay team at the 1984 Summer Olympics. In the opening round, she aided Charmaine Crooks, Marita Payne Wiggins, and Jill Richardson-Briscoe in qualifying for the final of the event, but was replaced by Molly Killingbeck for Canada’s silver medal-winning performance. She was also eliminating in the opening heats of the 400 metre hurdles at these Games. A student at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, she had to wait until May 1985 to receive her medal and spent the next several years training to make the 1988 Olympic team, including a seventh-place finish in the 400 m hurdles at the 1987 Pan American Games. She was not selected for the 1988 Games, however, and retired from active competition that year.
