Born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1905, Alan Christie had a brief career as a track sprinter before working in finance in both Canada and the United States. Christie was selected to run in the 400 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics where he reached the quarter-finals. He was also part of the quartet that just missed out on a medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay when they finished fourth. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1928 before joining Sun Life Financial in 1931. By 1943 Christie had moved to the United States and was working at the Bank of New York in Scarsdale. He continued to work in the investment sector in both the US and Canada until he retired.
