During the 1970s Canadian track and field athlete Claude Ferragne specialised in the high jump, which saw him compete against his brother-in-law Robert Forget and his great rival Greg Joy. Ferragne won bronze at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand, finishing behind the Australian pair of Gordon Windeyer and Lawrie Peckham. Two years later he competed at his home Olympics in Montréal but came a disappointing 12th, with Joy taking home the silver medal. Ferragne more than made up for his poor Olympics when he won gold at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, with Joy once again winning silver at a major international event. He later qualified for the 1980 Moskva Olympics but ultimately did not compete following the boycott of the Games by Western nations. In 1996 Ferragne was inducted into the Québec Sports Hall of Fame.
