Biography

Jeff Glass competed in the 110 metre hurdles at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In a desperate attempt to make the final, he used his volleyball skills and dove across the finish line in the semi-final to finish fourth (just 1/100th of a second ahead of Spain’s Javier Moracho in fifth place) – he didn’t realize he made the final until he saw the in-stadium screen post the Olympic final start list, while he was already sitting in the stands. He also finished fifth in the high hurdles at the 1983 Pan American Games.

In 1980, Glass was the first Canadian athlete to be on the national junior volleyball and track and field teams at the same time. From 1981-89, he represented Canada internationally on 22 occasions including the Commonwealth Games, Pan-American Games, World Indoor Games, World Student Games, Pacific Conference Games and Olympic Games. While representing his university track team, Glass was a five-time all-Canadian and three-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) champion. In high school at Saunders Secondary School, he won four Ontario championships (also competing in the 400 metre hurdles) and set a Canadian 110 metre record.

Glass graduated from the University of Western Ontario (now Western University) in London with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in 1983, law degree (LL.B.) in 1988, and Honours Business degree (H.B.A.) in 1989. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1991 and became a Partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) in Toronto, providing legal services to leading businesses worldwide, and founded the firm’s Investment Products & Asset Management Practice.

Glass was inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. He joined the Board of Directors of the Canadian Olympic Foundation in 2020 and was on the Fundraising and Donor Relations Committee of the Western University Board of Governors. Glass was also a former member of the Richard Ivey School of Business Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Personal Best: 110H – 13.73 (1984).
