Born in London, England in 1896 Eddie Lawrence later moved to Canada where he competed in middle and long-distance running races. In 1920 Lawrence became the Canadian champion in the 1,500 metres, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. At the Antwerpen Games he ran in both the 1,500 metres and the 10,000 metres but did not advance from the heats in either.
