Primitivo Martínez won the basketball championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) two consecutive times (1931-32) with the team of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. This earned him a place on the national team at the 1934 Far Eastern Games that claimed the gold medal. Martínez represented the Philippines at the 1936 Berlin and the 1948 London Olympics, placing fifth and 12th, respectively. He later managed a farm on Masbate Island and was eventually appointed governor of the Masbate Province. In 1999, he was among the first group of inductees of the National Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1969, his daughter Cecile won the women’s title at the national tennis championships.
