Fred Noseworthy

Fred Noseworthy was a well-known Canadian distance runner, but was better known for his skill in snowshoe racing. From 1901 to 1908, he won every snowshoe race that he entered. A Newfoundland native, Noseworthy moved to Montréal as a small child, and represented the Montréal Amateur Athletic Association during his endurance racing career. He was not selected as a part of Canada’s delegation to the 1908 Summer Olympics at the trials, but his club paid for him to attend the Games. He also had some success as a hockey coach, both in Montréal (briefly with the Canadiens) and in Portland, Oregon. Noseworthy eventually settled in the United States, near Boston, and was helpful in making ice hockey popular in Beantown. He worked for many years with the New England Power Company.
