Rolf Hoppe was a javelin thrower who competed for Chile at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. He carried the Chilean flag at the Opening Ceremony in Mexico City. Hoppe attended college in the United States, at San Fernando Valley State. While there he won the D-2 NCAA title in javelin in 1969. During his senior year in college he was killed in a car accident.
