After finishing fifth in 1971 Alejandro Casañas also won gold (1975) and silver (1979 and 1983) in 110 metres hurdles at the Pan American Games. Also he was a member of two silver medal winning 4×100 metres Pan American Games relay teams in 1975 (with Pablo Montes, José Triana, and Hermes Ramírez) and 1979 (with Silvio Leonard, Osvaldo Lara, and the non-Olympian Juan Saborit).
