All-round track and field athlete Poul Otto won more than a dozen medals at the Danish championships across three different disciplines. Otto won his first medal at the national championships in 1934 with silver in the long jump. The following year he then won bronze in both the long jump and the triple jump, along with gold in the high jump. He won three more national titles in the high jump (1937, 1940, 1942) and one title in the long jump (1941). Otto represented Denmark in the high jump at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he tied for 12th place with nine other athletes who all had a best clearance of 1.85 metres.
