Biography

From the mid-1930s to the early 1940s Svend Aage Thomsen was one of the best all-round track and field athletes in Denmark. From 1934 to 1942 Thomsen won a dozen national championships with four victories in the 110 metres hurdles, two in the high jump, five in the decathlon, and one in the pole vault. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he competed in the 110 metres hurdles and the high jump. He was also scheduled to participate in the 400 metres hurdles and the pole vault in Berlin but did not start in either event. Thomsen was also a noted academic who went on to found the Vejle Sports College in 1943, with him working there as the principal.

Personal Bests: 110H – 14.5 (1942); HJ – 1.88 (1936).
