Biography

After initially starting his sporting career as a footballer, Mogens Truelsen became interested in athletics and went on to win more than 20 medals at the Danish athletics championships in the 1920s. In 1921 Truelsen ran the 200 metres in 22.6 seconds to set a national record that would stand until 1933. The same year he won gold in both the 4 x 100 metres and 4 x 400 metres relay races at the Danish championships. In 1922 he won gold in the 200 metres before doing the relay double again in the following year. Truelsen won another 200 metres title in 1924, followed by gold in the 4 x 100 metres relay in 1925, with him winning his final Danish title in 1925 with victory in the 100 metres. Although a specialist as a sprinter he also won bronze in the long jump in 1924 and silver in the pole vault in 1925. Truelsen ran in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 1924 Paris Olympics but only advanced from the opening heats in the latter.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.9 (1925); 200 – 22.6 (1921).
