In a time when the Egyptian track and field scene was dominated by non-indigenous Egyptians, Mohamed El-Sayed of Alexandria was a rare exception, which led to his selection to represent his country at the 1924 Paris Olympics. There, he was eliminated in the first rounds of both the 1500 and 5000 metres events. Although he did not attend another edition of the Games, he was still competing in the 1930s as sport participation spread across the country. In 1932, he was the national champion in the 1,500, 5,000, and 10,000 metres, and runner-up in the 800 metres, while in 1933 he was runner-up in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres.
Personal Bests: 1500 – 4:12.4 (1932); 5000 – 15:23.4 (1928).
