Biography

György Nagy was a basketball player for BSE in the 1946/1947 season, and then for Mávag (Vasas Mávag) between 1948 and 1952. Nagy won the Hungarian championship with the latter team in 1948. He was a member of the Hungarian national team 28 times and wore the college national team jersey 14 times. He was a member of the Hungarian national team that participated at the 1948 London Olympic Games, where the Hungarian team defeated Italy, Canada, and the host Great Britain, but lost to Uruguay and the group winners Brazil after extra time, so they did not advance to the top eight. The Hungarian management did not allow the team to play for 9th-16th place, so due to the lack of play, the team was automatically ranked 16th. At the European Championships he finished third in Geneva in 1946 and seventh in Prague in 1947. Nagy was also a member of the Hungarian team that finished third in the 1949 World College Championships in Budapest. In 1947 and 1948, he played for the national team twice in the Balkan Games basketball tournaments and won both times.

In 1960 Nagy obtained a coaching qualification and worked as a coach. In civilian life he worked as a department manager at the Hungarian Military Police.
