Giovanni Nesti was one of the pioneers of the basketball in the city of Torino. He played in the top level of the Italian League with Ginnastica and RIV. He made the first of just three international appearances against Switzerland at Milano in April 1948. He scored just six points in an international career cut short by injury. At the 1948 London Olympics, Nesti was voted “the most beautiful Italian athlete“ of the Games by his fellow Italian competitors. He represented his country in an official meeting with members of the Royal Family.
