Fiji sprinter Sitiveni Moceidreke was selected for the 100 and 200 metres at the 1960 Rome Olympics. It was a historic moment as it was only the second time Fiji participated in the Games. Moceidreke was eliminated in the second round of the 100, and in the heats of the 200.
Moceidreke’s notable achievements include breaking Josefa Levula’s 200 metres record, and also his enduring national record of 10.4 seconds in the 100, which had stood for 17 years. Moceidreke went on to represent Fiji at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth, Australia, where he clinched a bronze medal in the 200.
Moceidreke attended Vuniyasi District School and worked for Vacuum Oil Company and later as a senior refueller at the Nadi Internation Airport.
Personal Bests: 100 – 10.85 (1960); 200 – 21.97 (1960).
