Finland’s Paavo Aho was a journalist who also had a successful track and field career as a sprinter and shot putter. Aho was part of the quartet that became the Finnish champions in the 4 × 100 metres in 1909. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics he competed in the shot put and the two-handed shot put events, finishing tenth and sixth, respectively. At the 1914 Baltic Games in Malmö he won the silver medal in the shot put with a throw of 13.33 metres.
In 1910 Aho graduated from Tampere Real High School to work as an editorial trainee before becoming a newspaper reporter in Kouvola. During the Finnish Civil War he was captured by the Red Guards and was executed and buried in Kouvola.
