Biography

Finnish track and field athlete Aulis Reinikka represented Kurikan Ryhti, where he competed in the pole vault and the decathlon. Reinikka was a national champion in both disciplines, winning five pole vault (1935–37, 1939–40) and two decathlon titles (1937–38). He competed in both events at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, with a best result of 11th in the decathlon. His effort in the pole vault in Berlin was disappointing, with him failing to clear the 3.80 metres that was needed to advance to the final. Two years later Reinikka finished sixth in the pole vault at the 1938 European Championships in Paris. His brother Ilmari competed in the high jump at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics.
