Biography

In 1930 Ilmari Reinikka won gold in the high jump at the international university championships along with his first national title in the event at the Finnish championships. Reinikka retained his high jump title the following year, earning himself a place on the Olympic team for the 1932 Los Angeles Games. At the Olympics he finished fifth after beating Kazuo Kimura in a jump-off after both athletes had cleared 1.94 metres. After his athletics career Reinikka studied at the Helsinki School of Economics and later worked as a store manager in a sports shop. His brother Aulis competed at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
