Born in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe in 1942, Marlène Canguio represented RACC Nantes in track and field athletics. Canguio was an excellent sprinter and hurdler who also competed in the long jump. In 1963 she won her first French athletics title with victory in the 80 metres hurdles. The following year she retained her title and earned herself a spot on the French Olympic team. At the 1964 Tokyo Games she ran in the heats of the 80 metres hurdles and reached the final of the 4 x 100 metres relay. Canguio won two further French titles during her career, winning the long jump in 1967 and the 100 metres hurdles in 1969. Her victory in the latter also established the first national record in the event.
