A Civil Servant with the Ministry of Labour, Violet Olney finished second to Eileen Hiscock in the 100 yards at both the 1933 and 1934 Civil Service Championships at the White City. Olney also finished second to Hiscock in the WAAA 200 metres in 1933. Although Olney won the Middlesex sprint title in 1936, her best WAAA performance in Olympic year was in finishing third behind Barbara Burke and Hiscock in the 200. Selected only for the sprint relay at the Berlin Olympics, she returned home with a silver medal after Olney, Burke, Hiscock and Audrey Brown finished second to the United States.
