One of Virtus Bologna’s best ever players, Renzo Ranuzzi won three consecutive Italian titles (1947-49) with them. He won the first of 19 international caps against Switzerland at Milano in 1948. He scored 93 points during his international career. As a coach, Ranuzzi served S.C. Gira Bologna (1960-62), Libertas Forlì (1967-68) and Virtus Bologna (1968-69) taking the place of Jaroslav Sip. Ranuzzi returned to Virtus for the 1980/81 season, when they lost the final match of the season that cost them the Italian title and, with fellow coach Asa Nikolic, Virtus lost by one point to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the European Champions Cup final at Strasbourg.
