Alf Meakin had the following podium finishes at major championships: 1st in the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards (with David Jones, Peter Radford, and the non-Olympian Len Carter). In the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games Meakin was also eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 100 yards and in the heats of the 220 yards.
