Having competed in the 2-mile walk at the 1903 Gaelic Athletic Association Championship, and then finishing second in the Navan Sports 1-mile handicap in 1904, James Reid went on to become three times Irish AAA champion in the 3-mile walk (1906-08), being the only man to retain a title at the 1907 Championship. Rarely competing outside of Ireland, Reid made the journey across the Irish Sea to London for the 1908 Olympics, but, sadly, was disqualified in the heats of the 3,500 walk. He failed to win a fourth Irish title in 1909 after finishing third in the 3-mile walk.
Personal Bests: 3 mile Walk – 23:12.4 (1908).
