Biography
Neftalí Rivera was a shooting guard for the Puerto Rican basketball team that played at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. He also won silver medals with Puerto Rico at the 1971 and 1975 Pan American Games. He played for the Piratas de Quebradillas on the island and, through 2017, still holds the record for the most points scored in a single game in the National Superior Basketball League (BSN) – 79 in 1974 against Taínos de Mayagüez. In 1970 Rivera helped the Pirates win their first league championship. For his 15-year career in the BSN, he averaged 19.2 points/game, with 1,052 rebounds and 1,291 assists in 390 games.
