Ilse Dörffeldt

Ilse Dörffeldt was a sprinter who won German Championships in 1934, 1937 and 1938 in the 4×100 relay. She also was runner-over in the 800 metres in 1932, and the 100 metres in 1937. What might have been her biggest success was marred by the disqualification of the German 4×100 team at the Berlin Olympics when Marie Dollinger dropped the baton on the final exchange, despite having a big lead. In the heat they had set a world record with 46.4 seconds. Dörffeldt also was a team member of two 4×200 relay world records in 1938 and 1940. Ilse Dörffeldt became a school teacher for German, History and Sports in East German’s Banzendorf, and later in East Berlin. She rests at the cemetery in Banzendorf.
