Biography
East German sprinter Sabine Günther started in 1992 for the reunified German sprint team at Barcelona where she placed fifth with the 4x100 metres relay and was eliminated in the second round of the 200 metres. Formerly the educated precision engineer started for the GDR and won the relay title at the World Cup in 1985 and 1989, and also started for reunified Germany at the 1992 World Cup, where she placed sixth in the 100, seventh in the 200, and sixth in the relay. At the European Championships Günther earned a bronze medal in the 200 metres in 1982 and relay gold medals in 1982, 1986, and 1990. She also collected four East German relay titles, and was a member of the 1985 East German world record relay team together with Silke Möller, Marlies Oelsner-Göhr and Ingrid Auerswald-Lange (41.37), a mark which stood until August 2012.
