While attending Waseda University, Sei Fuwa played for the university’s football club. He was selected as the reserve goalkeeper of the Japanese team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was not fielded in either game. With the team of Waseda, he won the All Japan Football Championship, the 18th Emperor’s Cup, in 1938 and was runner-up in 1939. In 1941, he was called to service in Manchuria in the Pacific War.
